Favorite Performances of 2009: Other Dances in the American Vernacular Jazz Dance Tradition

Next to last installment of my favorite videos from this past year.  Check out the other posts for Lindy Hop couple routines, Lindy teams, and social dance clips.

Adam Boehmer at Midwest Lindyfest

In my opinion Adam is a way underrated dancer in our scene with a very unique sense of movement.  There’s a great flow to this performance and I like the fact that he doesn’t feel compelled to fill every moment with an American Vernacular Jazz DanceTM pattern.  Sometimes all you need is good dancing.

Mia Goldsmith & Todd Yannacone at All Bal Weekend

I don’t watch the balboa scene too closely, but Mia & Todd’s performance caught my eye and didn’t let go.

Kelly Porter & Dan Newsome at the Down Home Blues Festival

I think this is the first year since 2001 that I’ve seen so many notable blues performances in one year.  Here’s Kelly and Dan with a very intriguing couple routine.

The Silver Shadow Ladies at Herrang Dance Camp

Nina, Naomi, and Ramona go to a very dark place beckoning you throw yourself at their mercy.

Anna, Brenda Collins, & Karissa Lightsmith at the Emerald City Blues Festival

Completing the blues hat trick, here’s one I’ve already posted twice before recently.  An authentic homage to Josephine Baker and other Cotton Club era dance routines.

All the Single Lindy Ladies at Camp Jitterbug

This seems like a change if pace, but if you see the way they dance this compared to the other routines listed here, then it’s not that difficult to see the link between them all.  Featuring Bethany Powell, Stacia Martin, and Karen Turman.

All the Single Ladies and Friends at Lindy on the Rocks

A sequel of sorts, and a damn fun one.

Naon, if I’m not mistaken, the “Silver Shadows” ladies choreography is done to Blues in C Sharp Minor by the Teddy Wilson Orchestra.
